What Type Of Pool Tile To Choose

A lot of customers struggle with picking the right type of pool tile, mostly because they base their decision off of what looks good now rather than what looks good years down the road. Picking pool tiles is not the same as choosing your wall tile and floor tile for your ondoor use there are many more things to consider. Here is a simple plan to follow that will assist you in making the most effective decision that will guarantee to make your life easier down the road as far as the headache of ripping your pool tile out or spending a lot having it maintained.

The first thing to consider is the tile size. This might not seem important but as far as maintenance goes you should definitely consider it. The bigger the tile the less grout will be used compared to a mosaic tile like a 1x1 or a pattern design. Luckily larger pool tiles are more popular than smaller mosaic tiles. 6x6 is a good size for your water line to minimize grout joints. This is crucial to consider because calcium build up usually occurs most heavily starting in the grout joints and once the calcium build up occurs it is extremely hard to clean off without damaging the tiles, costing more money in the long run to repair and remodel.

The next thing to keep in mind is the finish of the tile. There are multiple finishes including abrasive, undulated, smooth, glossy, and matte. This is necessary to consider also because of the maintaining of the tile and longevity. Try and stay away from tiles that are extremely abrasive because these tiles are the hardest to clean and the more the calcium would adhere to. Smoother non-undulated tiles are your best choice.

The next thing to consider is the shade/color of the tiles. There are numerous shades and colors to choose from. The darker the color the more the calcium and dirt will show up. Lighter the color/shade the less calcium build up will show. Kind of like avehicle. A darker vehicle when dirty will show up much more than the lighter color vehicle.

The final thing to consider is the type of material. Types of tile consist of porcelain, ceramic, and glass. Porcelain and glass are both equally sufficient materials both durable and strong and frost proof. Ceramic is the inferior choice and recommended to stay away from. Glass pool tiles are a good choice, however they are usually smaller, compared to a porcelain tile in a 6x6 size.

Use this plan in deciding the right tile for your swimming pool project!
